The new Beverly Hills Cop movie has landed a pair of notable actors to star alongside Eddie Murphy in Netflix’s upcoming sequel to the franchise’s last installment, 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III.
Deadline reports Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige have been cast in the forthcoming film. Titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, the movie is written by Will Beall and directed by Mark Molloy, with Murphy producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Bruckheimer revealed the fourth installment is scheduled to begin shooting soon. “Well, we’re making another Beverly Hills Cop,” he shared. “We start that in like a week or 10 days and that’s gonna be for Netflix.”
The news arrives nearly three years after Netflix licensed the rights from Paramount to move forward with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
During an interview on Desus & Mero in March 2021, Murphy shed light on just how long a sequel to Beverly Hills Cop III has been in the works.
“They’ve been trying to make another Beverly Hills Cop for 15 years now,” Murphy revealed. “Right now, Netflix has it, and they’re trying to develop a script. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing next. But I’m not doing nothing until the script is right.”
When asked how he remembers working on the career-making Beverly Hills Cop in 1984, Murphy maintained his youth helped him weather the storm.
“I didn’t feel any pressure,” Murphy explained. “When you’re young, you kind of take everything for granted. So, that’s all I knew. You know? Stuff started happening fast for me, so I didn’t even think about it. Now, when I look back, I’m like, ‘Wow! I was really young!’ 48 Hours, I’m 20 years old in 48 Hours. You aren’t thinking that at the time. But, now I can say, ‘Wow. I was really young.’ There was no pressure back then, I was just rolling with it.”
