Following the successful first season of his football comedy Ballers, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is partnering with HBO once again for a documentary about the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Boot Camp Program. The film, entitled Rock and a Hard Place, is described as a "passion project" and "the most important film" of his career by Johnson. "By the time I was 16, I had been arrested eight or nine times for a variety of things," the future Baywatch star said in a press release, "[I] can relate to what these kids are going through."
The Miami program reportedly has a recidivism rate "close to 9 percent," which is astronomically better than the current national prison recidivism rate of 70 percent. At Miami-Dade County Corrections, young people are given the option of trading often daunting prison sentences for the completion of the "uncompromising" program. "Miami-Dade is making a difference and truly changing lives in the process of all their hard work," Dany Garcia, Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions co-founder, says. "That is why we wanted to make a film about it."
Rock and a Hard Place, co-directed by Matthew O'Neill and Jon Alpert, is set to debut exclusively on HBO in May. The second season of Ballers, also a Seven Bucks project, is currently in production.
