In other Netflix news, so many people have been quarantined at home amid the coronavirus pandemic and streaming video content that it could lead to a network crash. The European Union subsequently asked Netflix and other platforms—like YouTube—if they could upload in standard definition rather than high definition in order to prevent the internet from thinning out. Netflix has complied, with Deadline reporting the temporary measures will be authorized for at least the next 30 days in the EU “to relax the strain on communications networks as increasing numbers rely on internet connections in coronavirus lockdown.” Amazon, Instagram, Facebook, and Apple have also followed suit.
