Get Out was undoubtedly shut out at this year's Golden Globes. It was nominated for Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy, and Best Actor—Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, for Daniel Kaluuya’s part, but the film didn’t receive any awards. There was also some controversy surrounding the movie being submitted as a comedy: While it was the studio’s call, neither Jordan Peele nor his fans agreed with its category.
Now we’re all wondering what will happen during the 90th Academy Awards, which are set to take place on March 4. How many nominations will Get Out receive, and will it win any awards? Moonlight actor Jharrel Jerome doesn’t have a positive outlook for Get Out.
“Chances always look crazy when you’re shut out at the Golden Globes,” Jerome told TMZ. “The Academy is definitely a whole different ballgame and a whole different set of people, and I think the Academy’s been moving in the right direction, especially after what we saw last year in the nominations, so hopefully they don’t set back, hopefully we don’t go back the way we’ve been going back in every other damn part of this society,” he added, alluding to President Trump’s America.
“Get Out’s definitely a film that deserves its recognition, deserves some Oscar nominations. It’s such an important story, especially what it deals with—a tricky topic and obviously a sensitive one. But I think that the best films to ever get nominated for Oscar’s are the ones that are tricky topics to talk about.”
Oscar nominations will take place at 5:22 a.m. P.S.T. on January 23.
