Having shocked film festivals around the world earlier this year, this Mexican horror film is finally trickling in to various brave theaters across the U.S. Hailed as a striking piece of cinema akin to the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, Jorge Michel Grau’s film focuses on a family of cannibals whose patriarch dies. Since the father normally provided their meals, they come face-to-face with the reality of their own survival and what it means for their own morality. Surprisingly, the movie is not a gore-soaked chapter in the book of torture porn films, but a moving tale of family and commitment, all seen through a very unsettling lens.
