The state of Georgia plans to put into effect what is considered to be the most comprehensive new gun law in America. Governor Nathan Deal is poised to sign a bill that would allow guns in all manner of public places including churches, schools, airports and bars.

Though considered to be a traditionally pro-gun state, not everyone supports this groundbreaking new law. Religious organizations, law enforcement and citizens in the state have all expressed concerns about whether or not it will in fact ensure greater safety. The bill is backed by the NRA and other pro-gun lobbyists who call it a victory for defenders of the second amendment.

Perhaps the most shocking section of the bill is the language allowing guns in bars. Somehow it's illegal to drive after having one too many beers, but it's totally fine to handle a firearm. As for churches, there's some flexibility. The church gets to determine if parishioners are allowed to enter with firearms.

Governor Deal is up for re-election and most believe his pro-gun stance is not going to hurt his chances of keeping his office. Gun control laws continue to be a major concern for both conservatives and liberals across the country after tragic incidents in the last several years have created a greater divide between those two groups.

Most recently, former mayor Michael Bloomberg tried and failed to pass a new anti-gun bill that would impose greater regulations on the industry in New York.
