Two LAPD officers who were shot yesterday evening believe they were targeted, authorities say.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the officers were in L.A.'s Florence neighborhood just before 6 p.m. yesterday when they were attacked:
Aguilar said the officers, assigned to the 77th Street Division narcotics section, were driving in an unmarked police car. She said there was no indication they were caught in crossfire between rival groups but rather believed the shots were meant for them.
Of course, because it's an active scene, that's our preliminary investigation, she said. "There's going to be several thorough interviews of the officers. But right now they believe they were the target.
The officers returned fire, suffering minor injuries during the exchange. Multiple people were detained during the exchange, and Det. Meghan Aguilar of the LAPD told the Times that police are still searching for two more suspects.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the shooting took place at the same intersection where 25-year-old Ezell Ford was fatally shot by the LAPD last August.
