Smokers in Washington afraid that the state's legal weed launch would be stifled by limited supply had their fears confirmed today, as a mere 24 of the 334 retail licenses were approved by the state's Liquor Control Board. That's a meager seven percent.
According to Bloomberg, officials say legal weed's uneventful debut can be attributed to most stores simply not being ready. "What we found is that many of our applicants just weren’t ready to be licensed yet," agency spokesman Brian Smith explained.
The fallout from this will be financial, as sales are estimated to fall 69 percent short of original projections. That hurts.
