As tensions between authorities and citizens continue to spiral out of control in Ferguson, Mo. following the death of Michael Brown, the state's governor has announced that the Missouri State Highway Patrol will now oversee protests. Brown, 18, was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer last weekend.

According to the Washington Post, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced that the state highway patrol will relieve the St. Louis County Police Department, who had previously been watching over protests. The Post adds that Capt. Ronald Johnson of the highway patrol said a new method must be implemented to maintain everyone's safety:

What's more, Nixon spoke in favor of Ferguson police releasing the name of the officer who killed Brown, noting that it should be done "as expeditiously as possible," and with the proper security measures taken.
