A defiant Florida man accused of stabbing another at an Orlando bus stop this week made it very clear that he did not want an attorney, specifically a "negro" attorney.
According to WKMG, Thomas Thorpe, 51, appeared in court on Wednesday to plead not guilty on attempted murder charges for stabbing a bus passenger. Thorpe refused the assistance of an attorney, much to the bewilderment of the judge.
"Do you understand what an attorney is and what they do?" the judge asked. "Yes, they screw us," Thorpe fired back. Thorpe entered his plea in a bizarre rush, adding "I don't want this negro standing next to me," referring to his public defender.
Concerned about his mental state, the judge ordered that he be placed under observation while jailed.
Let him stand alone during his next court appearance and continue to make comments like that. It will be interesting to see how his "situation" works out.
