A man in Chile suffered serious injuries over the weekend when an elevator malfunction sent it traveling up 31 floors in 15 seconds before crashing into the roof of the building.
MyFox8 reports that after 31-year-old José Vergara Acevedo entered the elevator at Providencia's Bustamante Community Park, the elevator started to malfunction before the doors even closed. Surveillance footage posted yesterday shows Acevedo pressing buttons in a panic before the elevator crashes into the roof.
The impact reportedly left Acevedo with leg and head injuries, and though he's currently in stable condition in an intensive care unit, it's possible that damage to his spine sustained during the crash may leave him unable to walk again.
