A shooting left an 8-year-old boy dead in Detroit last night, authorities say.
According to CBS Detroit, Jakari Pearson was sleeping in his bed when a gunman approached his family's residence and began opening fire around 1:15 a.m. this morning. A bullet pierced the window to Pearson's bedroom, hitting him in the chest. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, and his mother also suffered a gunshot wound. Neighbors say at least five shots were fired, and three bullet holes could be seen at the townhouse.
CBS Detroit reports that sources say the incident was the result of a domestic dispute involving Pearson's mother and a man who is not the boy's father. In addition, though Sgt. Michael Woody was sparse on details, he said local police are in the process of hunting the shooter down:

We have a pretty good idea of who it is that we are looking for. Unfortunately, we can’t talk too much about that just yet as we are in the very early stages of this investigation. We hope the community continues to talk to us and feeds us information so we can track this individual down and get him into custody very quickly.

Lastly, CBS Detroit notes that while a person of interest had been brought in for questioning, no arrests had been made.
