58-year-old Michael Bennett Gardner, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for cultivating one of the largest marijuana crops in Australia, doesn't feel that his sentence is heavy enough. Back in March, Gardner pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking. In 2008, 3.6 tons and 22,000 marijuana plants from his Inglewood property. Prosecutors estimated the street value of the drugs to be roughly $68 million.
Authorities also discovered an arsenal of weapons and 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Representing himself in court last Friday, Gardner attempted to appeal his sentence. Claiming that the court had not grasped the "full gravity" of his actions, Gardner said that he deserved at least 20 years in prison.
Dressed in a t-shirt that read "Abortion is Killing," Gardner said that he was growing marijuana to fund a national anti-abortion campaign.
