In case you haven't heard, Google is coming out with a "revolutionary" product called Glass (because they're glasses.) Google is a hugely successful company, but one thing they're not succeeding in is trademarking "glass."
The US Patent and Trademark Office is rejecting Google's application, saying that "glass" is a descriptive word that's too generic to trademark, and that it would create some confusion for some companies that use the word in their products, like Microsoft's SmartGlass. That didn't stop the company, though, because their lawyers sent a 1,928-page letter to the office, which included articles that mention Google Glass, in an attempt to show them that Glass has already been weaved into popular culture.
No word yet from the office in their final decision.
