You know how sometimes people take things a little too far? This might qualify as one of those times.
What started out as a silly “look how big a nerd Ben (Adam Scott) is” gag on Parks and Recreation has escalated quickly into a full blown board game that people are actually playing. Mayfair Games debuted their version of Cones of Dunshire at the Indianapolis gaming conference known as GenCon, and in six hours sold out the 33 charity slots they had for those who wanted to play.
As for the excessively convoluted rules? Alex Yeager of Mayfair explains the company’s thinking by asking the following question:
“If this game was created by a person with no sense of marketability, with no filter on the elements included, and no experience with game design, what would it look like?”
Probably, something like this.
