There's no telling what the state of the smartphone market will be in 2012. If it continues on its current path, we're going to have handsets as fast or faster than low-powered notebooks. Samsung is making sure of that. The Korean electronics manufacturer announced that it will release a smartphone next year powered by a 2GHz dual-core processor.
The Maeil Business Newspaper reported that the phone will be available by next year and will "have the data processing capacities of a regular PC."
Hopefully by the time it figures out how to cram such a powerful chip into a phone, Samsung also finds a battery capable of keeping it powered up for an entire day. It'd also be nice to have a mobile operating system capable of taking full advantage of such a chip. Until that happens, buying a phone that powerful will be akin to driving around SoHo in Lamborghini.
