Another celebrated actor has come forward to defend Woody Allen against sexual abuse allegations.
In a new interview, Jeff Goldblum told iNews that there is “a presumption of innocence until proven guilty” in regards to Allen and the allegations by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.
Goldblum added, that he “would consider working with” the director again, after having played a small role in Allen’s 1977 film Annie Hall. “I know I enjoyed working with him many years ago and I sat in with his band once too.”
The actor continued, “Even though I feel like this cultural shift [the #MeToo movement] is very, very positive and long overdue and I support it wholeheartedly and take it very seriously, I also admire his body of work. So I would consider working with him again, until I learned something more.”
His comments have stirred some controversy, with some fans canceling the actor.
Farrow has long accused Allen of child molestation, but he has always denied her claims. Farrow penned an op-ed on her experience for the Los Angeles Times in December 2017.
“I have long maintained that when I was 7 years old, Woody Allen led me into an attic, away from the babysitters who had been instructed never to leave me alone with him. He then sexually assaulted me. I told the truth to the authorities then, and I have been telling it, unaltered, for more than 20 years,” she wrote.
This September, Scarlett Johansson also said she believes Allen and “would work with him anytime,” to which Farrow responded, “Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it's that you definitely should believe male predators who ‘maintain their innocence’ without question.”
Farrow then applauded actresses like Ellen Page, Jessica Chastain, and Susan Sarandon who openly denounced the director and said they would never work with him again.
