If superhero movies like the X-Men franchise make a ton of money, and teen movies like The Fault in Our Stars make a ton of money, what could possibly go wrong when you combine the two?

Deadline reports that Fox has plans for an X-Men spinoff featuring a different team of mutants born with special abilities who also happen to be teenagers with teenager problems. And who better to direct The New Mutants than Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone, the guy who turned a $12 million teen novel adaptation into a $300 million hit?

Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to have characters from the X-Men universe show up in this movie too. The New Mutants comic books, which debuted in 1983, have featured crossover stories with Wolverine, Cable and Daredevil. Even Deadpool made his first appearance in a New Mutants book.

Don't get too excited. Boone has a lot of things lined up before he can make this movie, including directing an announced adaptation of Stephen King's novel Lisey's Story and maybe directing an adaptation of King's The Stand.
