Police in California are still searching for three inmates who escaped from an Orange County jail earlier this week by rappelling off the roof, but it's the alleged crime that landed one of those guys there in the first place that might be most disturbing.

Escapee Hossein Nayeri was in jail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated mayhem, torture and first degree burglary, The Daily Beast reports.

So what does that mean, exactly?

It means he's accused of being part of a group that stalked the owner of a marijuana dispensary, kidnapped him and his roommate's girlfriend, took them out to the desert, then cut off the guy's dick after burning him with a blowtorch, the Orange County Register reported back in 2013.

Nayeri had already took off to his home country of Iran when DNA evidence linked him to the crime, but the FBI tricked him into traveling to the Czech Republic where he was arrested and extradited the U.S. He pleaded not guilty.

Along with three others who were charged in the kidnapping, Nayeri allegedly abducted the owner of the dispensary after following his movements for several weeks. The kidnappers thought he was going out to the desert to bury large sums of money, but he was actually just traveling to discuss a business deal, prosecutors said.

After taking him out to the desert and unsuccessfully trying to get him to give up the cash through torture, the kidnappers cut off the man's penis, prosecutors said. The kidnappers allegedly took the dick with them so it "could never be reattached," the Register wrote.

The manhunt for the escapees has been unsuccessful so far, with no reported sightings of Nayeri, Bac Tien Duong, 43, or Jonathan Tieu, 20.

Tieu was in jail on murder, attempted murder and other gang-related charges. Duong was locked up on charges of attempted murder, burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Both men had pleaded not guilty.

Its still not clear how the escapees were linked before their escape.
