Who else would voice a sinister Star Wars villain charged with tracking down and killing the remaining Jedi after the Clone Wars? EW.com confirmed today that veteran actor/Harry Potter scourge, Jason Isaacs, has been cast as The Inquisitor, the big baddie in Disney's upcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels.
"He’s cold, he’s analytical, he doesn’t get angry," LucasFilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo said of Isaacs' character. "We all took care to make sure our villains have real presence and our heroes just can’t walk all over him. This isn’t like cartoons I grew up with in the 80s where you’d have the villain lose every week and yet every week we’d have to believe he’s some sort of threat. When The Inquisitor shows up, it means something significant and it’s a definite challenge for our heroes."
Lucky for Isaacs, he's used to playing aggravatingly dickish foils. He almost straight up murdered a 12-year-old Harry Potter as Draco Malfoy's dad, and no one will ever forget his turn as one of the greatest villains of all-time, Colonel William Tavington in The Patriot. Remember how horrible that guy was?
Star Wars Rebels will premiere this fall as a one-hour special on Disney Channel, and will then air as a series on Disney XD. Until then, check out the first footage of The Inquisitor above.
