Based on the comic book series of the same name, this nostalgic sci-fi series may have been Prime’s answer to the success of Stranger Things on Netflix. A ragtag, diverse group of four girls are snatched up from their 1988 paper route by two competing factions of time travelers and sent on the adventure of a lifetime…or lifetimes? On their journey, they encounter future versions of themselves at various times in their lives as they attempt to save the world. Featuring fun guest stars like Ali Wong, Nate Corddry, and Jason Mantzoukas, this is an exciting and engrossing binge-watch.

Finally, a “social experiment”/dating show based on a method we can rely on: astrology. Based on their astrological birth charts, four cishet strangers – one representing each of the four elements – enter the “Astro Chamber” (think a less portable version of Too Hot to Handle’s Lana) to find out if their romantic destiny is truly written in the stars. Will they end up clicking with someone the “Astro Chamber ‘’ has deemed to be a “perfect match” based on astrological compatibility or is it all just a bunch of hooey?

Upload

Starring: Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards

This comedy-drama series from Greg Daniels (The Office US, Parks and Recreation) envisions a near-future where people can upload themselves at their time of death to the afterlife of their choosing. Amell’s Nathan Brown gets uploaded to a luxurious, 5-star resort-like version of heaven. But not everything is as rosy as it seems. If this concept sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a lighthearted version of the future pictured in the Black Mirror fan-favourite “San Junipero” episode. Don’t be fooled by the comedic approach though, Upload has plenty of dramatic and tender moments that will tug at your heartstrings.

A League of Their Own

Toronto-based writer and producer Julian Doucet is the showrunner of this new Prime Video original series—a fast-talking queer comedy that’s like a Canadian version of Gilmore Girls, with dialogue just as razor-sharp and lightning fast. Set on an Ontario lake rife with summer cottages, the mordant satire playfully skewers the ultra-rich lakeshore community Canadian viewers will surely know well.

The Wilds

Prime Video’s hit drama The Wilds, on the face of it, bears obvious comparisons to Lost—both are about a group of plane crash survivors living together in isolation on a mysterious island. What distinguishes The Wilds, however, is that the group of young female survivors are actually the unwitting subjects of a large-scale social experiment, an intriguing twist that changes the scope of the series entirely.

The Kids in the Hall

The Kids in the Hall, the original sketch comedy show that aired on the CBC from 1989 to 1995, has handily achieved the kind of cult status comedians dream of: universally beloved, massively influential, and constantly being rediscovered anew. Now, more than 25 years after it left the air, the series is returning with the original troupe — and the five of them haven’t missed a beat. This much anticipated revival arrives on Prime Video this month.

J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek co-star as an elderly married couple in this new original series on Prime Video about a family home that contains a portal to another world. If the intriguing science-fiction premise isn’t enough to hook you, consider that Simmons and Spacek, in their own right and in different ways, are two of the best actors of their generation, Simmons having come into his own more recently (as the star of Whiplash and other films) and Spacek a living legend from the time of Carrie onward.

Prime’s original series Bosch has long been one of its most enduring hits, as fans became devoted to the dry, no-nonsense police work of Los Angeles detective Harry Bosch. After the show concluded with its seventh season, “The Burning Room,” last summer, there’s no doubt been a lot of desire for more — and thankfully Prime Video has answered that demand with a brand new spin-off focusing on the rookie outings of Bosch’s daughter, played by Madison Lintz.
