While Kardashian is set to make her SNL debut on Oct. 9 with musical guest Halsey, some are questioning why the celebrity was included with other hosts Rami Malik, Owen Wilson, and Jason Sudeikis. Among those critiquing SNL’s choice is Will & Grace star Debra Messing, who took to Twitter to ask what Kim brings to the table.

“Why Kim Kardashian?” Messing wrote in a quote-tweet of a Variety article reporting the news. “I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch. Am I missing something?”

While the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is the only non-actor announced for this season so far, she wouldn’t be the first celebrity to grace the SNL stage recently—Elon Musk hosted an episode of the show back in May.

Some fans agreed with Messing’s criticism of the show's choice in hosts, while others came to Kim K’s defense in saying that she is extremely successful and more than worthy of being on SNL. Check out what people had to say about Messing’s tweet below.

you mean are you missing something besides the massive cultural shift of the past, like, decade? https://t.co/TzxudlYIgi

Truth be told @DebraMessing, @KimKardashian just wrapped up what is likely the most successful & longest-running reality television show in history & is launching a new series on @hulu. That and her "side gigs" @skims & @kkwbeauty made her a billionnaire. She is @nbcsnl worthy.

Yes Debra, you are missing something. Like the last 40 years. You may not like her, but as you say, KK is a cultural icon. SNL has had athletes, politicians, community leaders, models, businessmen and media personalities as hosts. I am not a fan of her, but she may be great.
