Joe Exotic on Netflix 'Tiger King'

Unlike just about everyone else who appeared in the Netflix docuseries Tiger King, Joe Exotic and his husband Dillon Passage appear to be happy with the end product. Joe has yet to see the series, but he's made it clear he's enjoying his newfound fame. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dillon said he was pleased with the series for the most part, but he admitted a certain scene will "upset" his husband.

"I feel like some things shouldn't have been shown in the docuseries, like Travis' accident in the office," Dillon explained, adding that Joe doesn't know the moment is shown in Tiger King. Travis Maldonado, who was Joe's second husband, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound back in 2017. The docuseries includes the accident, using surveillance footage that shows a co-worker reacting to the moment as it happens offscreen.

"I feel like that was very personal to Joe and that it was used for an emotional purpose and to get people more drawn in to the show," Dillon continued. "I don't think that's fair to Travis. He probably would not have wanted that put all over the world. ... And I didn't tell [Joe] that it was in there. I feel like he's definitely gonna be upset about it, so it's best that he doesn't know."

Despite this, Dillon Passage said that he "really enjoyed" Tiger King, which would make him one of the few people featured who isn't angry at the filmmakers. "They were really honest with me from the get go," he said. "I don't feel taken advantage [of]. Because they told Joe's story true as can be. Maybe they left out some of his more sensitive character aspects and kind of made him seem like more of an angry person who was yelling all the time. But he was definitely a wild character and he was very outspoken and he wasn't scared to share his opinion. And I feel like they showed it."
