Leonardo DiCaprio and his friends casually saved a man’s life while on vacation.

On Dec. 30, the actor was in St. Barts with his friends and girlfriend to celebrate the New Year when they heard there was an emergency search to look for a man who had drunkenly fallen off a Club Med yacht, People reports.

“Leo and his friends and their boat captain decided to join the search and their efforts resulted in helping save a man’s life,” a source told the outlet. The 24-year-old man had been treading water, in the middle of the ocean for 11 hours. The insider added, “The boat crew were happy to try and assist—even more so that they were able to help get the man to safety.”

DiCaprio’s boat ended up being the only one looking in the area where the man had drifted. But the actor and his friends found the man and rescued him in rough water, around an hour before the sun set and a heavy rainstorm was coming in. According to Vulture, the captain called the rescue a “one in a billion shot.”

A week after the incident, DiCaprio was in Hollywood for the Golden Globes, where he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood. The award ended up going to Joaquin Phoenix for his role in Joker.
