James Corden is finally speaking out about his recent controversy. No, the late-night TV host is not always driving during his Carpool Karaoke segments.

"I'm sure many of you have heard, I recently have been the victim of a scandal in the media and there's been some very, very serious allegations against me," the Late Late Show host said Wednesday, tongue firmly in cheek. "I want to get ahead of everything and address those and assure you, my audience, that these accusations are not true. I am, of course, talking about the people who say that I don't drive the car during Carpool Karaoke."

But he explained that it's not always safe for him to be driving the car, which honestly, is a pretty good excuse. "I know this looks bad," he continued. "But I just want to say right now that I always drive the car unless we're doing something where we think it might not be safe ... In the case of Justin Bieber, it was a safety issue where we thought it was best to tow the car. Frankly, I just kept getting lost in his eyes."

Bieber had a little fun with Corden's admission too, replying to the host's tweet. "Wait... you weren't driving the car?" the "Yummy" singer tweeted. "How could you James? I'm shocked." For Bieber's episode, the SUV the pair were in during the segment was towed behind a production truck.

Corden poked a little fun at those who really believed that he was always behind the wheel. "But this is a TV show: Not everything is real," he added. "Our show doesn't tape after midnight, we tape at 5 p.m. and pretend that it's late... And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't actually need (the show's guests) to help me get to work, right? Often I'm at work already. We've also never once, in the history of that bit, used the carpool lane."

Out of all of his Carpool Karaoke segments, only five were shot without him driving: Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, Meghan Trainor, Migos and now, Bieber.
