George Lopez is starting off his 2020 with some political controversy.
On Sunday, the comedian took to Instagram where he commented on a post regarding the $80 million bounty placed on Donald Trump for assassinating Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. Contrary to what the post suggests, the bounty wasn't regulated by Iranian authorities. Rather, it came from a statement made by an unidentified eulogist while Soleimani's funeral was being broadcasted on Iran's state-owned Channel One television network.
"We are 80 million Iranians," the man said. "If each one of us puts aside one American dollar, we will have 80 million American dollars, and we will reward anyone who brings us [Trump]'s head with that amount."
"We’ll do it for half," Lopez commented on the Instagram post.
Of course, this didn't sit well with Trump supporters. #ArrestGeorgeLopez is now a rallying cry.
Other users have come to Lopez's defense. They feel that the comment shouldn't be taken seriously because Lopez is a comedian. They've also decided to add on to the gag with trolls of their own.
