The beloved animated series will close out with 12 new episodes kicking off Feb. 21 on the recently launched streaming platform from Disney. The final episodes will further detail events leading up to the happenings at the center of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Dave Filoni, whose previous credits include The Mandalorian and Avatar: The Last Airbender, is aboard as supervising director.
The cast includes Ashely Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sam Witwer as Darth Maul, and Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan.
The last we saw of the Clone Wars series was back in 2014 via Netflix, which housed the sixth season following a five-year run on Cartoon Network.
With last year's The Mandalorian, Disney+ scored a heavily memed and critically lauded addition to the Star Wars universe. In the middle of the Jon Favreau-created series' inaugural run, J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters to close out the main cinematic division of the saga. Unfortunately, the movie failed to garner the same critical enthusiasm as The Mandalorian.
Addressing the criticism he and the Skywalker team have received from fans and critics alike, Abrams said at a screening in December that both sides of the ongoing debate are right.
