A romance between a woman healing from the wounds of her mother's death and an up-and-coming journalist is at the center of The Photograph, a new rom-com starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield.

Written and directed by The Weekend's Stella Meghie, the movie notably boasts the producer prowess of Girls Trip and Ride Along alum Will Packer. Rae plays Mae Morton, a photographer whose mother suddenly dies, leaving a photo in a safe-deposit box. The photo launches Rae's character on a journey toward a greater understanding of her mother's life, a journey that ultimately leads her to Stanfield's character Michael Block.

We won't spoil the rest here, but Rae and Stanfield are joined by an overwhelmingly stacked cast that also includes Chanté Adams, Y'lan Noel, Rob Morgan, Lil Rel Howery, and Courtney B. Vance.

Fittingly, the movie is set to hit theaters nationwide on Feb. 14, 2020. For those not up on matters of romance, sources say that date is indeed Valentine's Day.

"Growing up, I thought I was going to be a novelist and I even tried to write, but I don't have that kind of patience," Meghie candidly told IndieWireearlier this year. "It wasn't until when I was living in New York, surrounded by independent cinema culture, that I became very film obsessed, and decided to transition to screenwriting."

Clearly, that transition is paying off.
