Jason Mitchell has finally decided that "it's time to make a statement" on Instagram addressing the sexual allegations which led to his sudden departure from The Chi. Mitchell broke his silence days after Showtime’s co-President of Entertainment Gary Levine informed Deadline that his character Brandon Johnson would be killed off.

"To everyone commenting without any knowledge of what’s going please stop," Mitchell wrote. "And to all my supporters I appreciate you all and I’m sorry I will no longer be in 'The Chi'.. but don’t believe what you read in the media…"

Mitchell was involved in an alleged inappropriate incident during Season 1 with co-star Tiffany Boone, which was addressed by putting the actor through HR training. "We were made aware at the time that the allegations were made," said Jana Winograde, Levine's fellow co-President of Entertainment at Showtime. "[Fox 21] conducted [a] thorough investigation. After that investigation, we all made the decision together that it was appropriate at that time to give him some training and guidance on appropriate behavior on set."

Another incident involving Season 2 showrunner Ayanna Floyd may have been the last straw when it came to Mitchell. Floyd alleges that when she became "a target of his rage and inappropriateness," she filed a complaint after she toldTHR that she did "everything I could to deal with his behavior."

In addition to The Chi, Mitchell was dropped by UTA, Authentic Talent & Literary Management, and the upcoming Netflix film Desperados over the numerous allegations made against him.
