When Adam Sandler really puts his heart into a film, the results are something truly special. Recently, this has happened most successfully when he's revisited the same creative energy of Punch Drunk Love in equally drama-focused fare like the excellent The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected). With A24, Sandler appears to be poised to pull off that caliber of performance again, this time alongside a cast that includes The Weeknd.

Indeed, as The Weeknd himself confirmed Tuesday, he will join Sandler in Josh and Benny Safdie's crime thriller, which is set for a 2019 Toronto International Film Festival premiere.

While not much is known about the film, including solid details on The Weeknd's character, we do have this TIFF synopsis to pore over:

From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie comes an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.

Additionally, the film is listed as having a running time of 135 minutes.

It's also worth noting that the Safdie brothers have an impressive track record thus far, including the 2017 Robert Pattinson-starring Good Time.
