The Halloween franchise hasn't concluded the Michael Myers nightmare just yet, as the sequel to the 2018 reboot is set for an Oct. 16, 2020 release.
According to Collider, Blumhouse sources have said that Halloween 2 will begin filming after Labor Day. Jamie Lee Curtis, who portrayed protagonist Laurie Strode in the original and the reboot is "all but assured to return," according to the outlet. Additionally, her daughter and granddaughter, played by Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively, are also rumored to be reprising their roles, although talent deals have yet to be confirmed.
Sources say that David Gordon Green, who wrote the script for the sequel and directed the 2018 film, will be returning to the helm for the next installment. His directorial efforts were widely applauded by critics, who handed the film a 79 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the fine line filmmakers must navigate while attempting to appease critics and staying true to the horror genre, the rating was well above the standard.
Danny McBride, who co-wrote the original script alongside Gordon Green, will return to executive produce the sequel, according to Cinema Blend. The outlet also reports that McBride and Green originally intended to shoot two Halloween films back-to-back, but decided to see how the first performed before executing the second. In addition to the co-scribes, Curtis, Couper Samuelson, and John Carpenter—the auteur who co-wrote and directed the 1978 original and composed its widely applauded score—are expected to executive produce the upcoming film.
The 2018 Halloween brought in $255 million worldwide at the box office, greatly surpassing the $10 million production budget they had to work with. Given its notoriety within the horror genre and its commercial success, it's likely that the upcoming sequel will equal or surpass that total.
