Ryan Reynolds has built a pretty diverse filmography over the years, having starred in everything from action projects and superhero flicks to animated movies and biopics. But for 2019, the 42-year-old actor will make his long-awaited return to the rom-com genre.

Reynolds confirmed Tuesday he would produce and star in Shotgun Wedding, his first rom-com project in a decade. The film will be helmed by Pitch Perfect and Sisters directed Jason Moore, with a script by Mark Hammer (Two Night Stand) and Liz Meriwether (New Girl). The movie will be co-produced by Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman, who worked with Reynolds on 2009's The Proposal

"I haven't done a romantic comedy since The Proposal but I just fell in love with Shotgun Wedding," Reynolds said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. "It's so refreshing and surprising. I can't wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave and the great team at Lionsgate."

Shotgun Wedding is described as a romantic comedy with an action twist. The film centers on a couple who must protect their families after criminals interrupt their destination wedding. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane said the rom-com will "showcase" Reynolds’ "incredibly versatile talents" as well as his "trademark wit and action chops."

The project will reportedly kick off production this summer.

Reynolds will also voice the titular character of Detective Pikachu, and is set to star in 6 Underground, Croods 2The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, and—hopefully—Deadpool 3. Though the latter project has already been announced, it's unclear if the sequel will survive the Fox/Disney merger.
