Netflix dropped a new documentary on serial killer Ted Bundy and issued a warning that seems counterintuitive to its whole business model. If you're planning on watching Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, don't do it alone.

for those of us with a PhD in true crime podcasts, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes is now streaming

maybe don't watch it alone x

The documentary is based around unheard audio recordings of the convicted killer and testimonials of women who knew him. It was released on the 30th anniversary of his execution.

"The Netflix series is a cataloguing and deep dive into the cradle to grave of Ted Bundy, really dissecting his crimes and methodologies," explained director Joe Berlinger in an interview with Refinery29. "He taps into our most primal fear: That you don’t know, and can’t trust, the person sleeping next to you. People want to think those who do evil are easily identifiable. Bundy tells us that those who do evil are those who often people we know and trust the most.”

True crime fans reacted strongly to Netflix's warning, either seeing it as a challenge or backing it up with stories of their own terror.

I do not recommend watching The Ted Bundy Tapes when you’re home alone because now I’m in the shower wondering what bottle of shampoo I would use in self defense

Ironic that Netflix warns people to not watch the Ted Bundy documentary alone when most of us watch so many crime docs because we ARE alone
