Amazon Studios has shared the first official trailer for Lorenaa docuseries centered on the infamous case of Lorena Bobbitt

Executive produced by Jordan Peele, the four-part series will re-examine Bobbitt's 1993 trial in which she accused of chopping off her husband's penis while he was asleep. Lorena will include exclusive interviews, new details about Bobbitt's tumultuous marriage, and an examination on the trial's longstanding impact on news coverage.

"John [Wayne, Bobbit's husband] and Lorena Bobbitt's dueling narratives exploded in a ravenous 24-hour news cycle, igniting a renewed battle of the sexes," Amazon wrote in the trailer's description. "Lorena became a national joke, her suffering ignored by the male-dominated press. But as John spiraled downward, Lorena found strength in the scars of her ordeal."

While the trial played out on national TV, many media outlets emphasized the salacious elements of the case, and depicted Bobbitt as a jealous "hot-blooded Latina." These tabloid headlines generated hype, and they distracted from the important parts of the case, such as Bobbitt's claims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

The docuseries aims to offer a shed "a new light" on Bobbitt's trial by exploring the moral issues and human tragedies that the media failed to properly acknowledge more than 25 years ago. Lorena will include interviews with pop culture figures, the defendant's friends and family, as well as Wayne and Bobbitt.
