Orange is the new black sequel

A few weeks ago, the cast ofOrange Is the New Blackrevealed season 7 would be its last. But before its finale hits the small screen of Netflix users everywhere, producers are already thinking about a sequel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs told THR and other outlets the production studio is considering a sequel created by Jenji Kohan that would continue the stories of Taylor Schilling (Piper), Laura Prepon (Alex), Uzo Aduba (Suzanne), and Danielle Brooks (Taystee).

"We're really proud of the long run that Orange Is the New Black had," Beggs said. "It remains one of Netflix's most-watched shows. We're ending on a high note. Keep in mind we own that series and will be distributing it for years to come. We're already in discussions and, when the timing is right, we'll talk further with Jenji about a potential sequel."

A potential sequel to the prison drama is not set in stone, and Netflix hasn’t revealed if it’s willing to pay for one. But it’s unlikely the company would turn down a follow up to the Emmy darling that premiered in 2013—forcing everyone and their mother to sign up for the streaming service when its commitment to original content was nascent.

Executive producer Tara Herrmann has even thrown out the possibility of a Broadway musical. Again, nothing is confirmed—the one thing we know for sure is that the final season of OITNB arrives in 2019.
