"The battle rap world is an underground message of free speech," Kahn told the Hollywood Reporter of the film's central idea last year. "But the film doesn't automatically take the side of free speech because there's still the question that we’re asking: 'Is there a limit to it?' It’s a legitimate question." Bodied was inspired, in part, by the criticism he faced from some over Taylor Swift's "Wildest Dreams" video.

At the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, Kahn's satirical flick (featuring a story co-penned by Alex Larsen) took home the People's Choice Midnight Madness award. The movie has also garnered widespread critical acclaim, with Birth.Movies.Death calling it both a "masterwork" and "a goddamn miracle to behold."

The film's final cut is expected to boast new music from Eminem and something from Dr. Dre. Though specifics still aren't known, previous reports suggested that Em would be contributing multiple new songs to the soundtrack. The Dre songs, however, are not believed to encompass new material.
