So...Zac Efron has dreadlocks—or the closest thing his hair can have to dreadlocks.
The Neighbors actor debuted his new look on Instagram. “Just for fun,” read the caption, with the "rock on" emoji.
This isn't the first time Efron tried out a different look. As Pop Crush pointed out, Efron shaved his beard into stripes a few months ago and started to show a more gruff look two weeks ago. But his latest hairstyle is causing the most controversy as some tweeters are calling him out for cultural appropriation.
"Putting my money where my mouth is and this is hard for me to say (trust me) But Zac Efron is canceled. I have to find a new boo now. Sigh," read one tweet.
The 30-year-old actor's comment section for the photo is equally messy.
"People need to stop listening to post malone bc this is what happens :/" wrote one person. "You’ll get no no cultural talk coming from me. I just don’t think is suites him [sic]. Period," wrote another.
Efron's dreadlocks probably won't slow down his workflow though (unlike it does for black people IRL). Following The Greatest Showman, he's playing Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and starring in The Beach Bum with Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, and Martin Lawrence.
