As Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Uncle Drew hit theaters over the weekend, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom maintained its No. 1 spot at the domestic box office its second week in a row.
The second film in the Jurassic World trilogy, and the fifth of the Jurassic franchise, raked in $60 million from 4,485 locations its second week, bringing its domestic total to $264.8 million, according tothe Hollywood Reporter. Overseas, the film picked up $56.1 million from 68 international markets for a foreign total of $667.6 million. This brings Jurassic World 2’s global haul to a whopping $932.4 million. This week it will become the third movie in 2018 to cross the $1 billion threshold, following Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.
The Universal blockbuster trails behind its predecessor, 2015’s Jurassic World, which brought in $402.8 million domestically after its second weekend, but the film is still considered a huge success for the franchise. With the help of Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Incredibles 2, and Fallen Kingdom, 2018’s summer box office totals are up 15.3 percent from last year, with an annual total 9.3 percent ahead of the same point in 2017.
Incredibles 2 held the No. 2 spot at the box office with $45.5 million its third weekend for a domestic total of $439.7 million. Sicario: Day of the Soldado debuted with $19 million and the Kyrie Irving-led Uncle Drew balled out with $15.5 million its first weekend.
