Running oceanside and watching a performance from Hip-Hop artist Anderson .Paak sounds like a summer dream, and thanks to adidas x Parley’s “Run for the Oceans” 5K run and celebration, it’s a dream several runners got to live. But if you couldn’t get to Los Angeles on June 8th, you can still be part of the community of runners, ocean ambassadors, and influencers who are working to raise awareness of the fragility of our oceans.

In April 2015, adidas partnered with Parley for the Oceans, an organization fighting marine pollution, to support its education and communication initiatives. Parley has spearheaded two important programs that everyone from the individual to corporations can participate in. Parley Ocean Plastic Program and Parley AIR Strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) are working to end plastic pollution in the oceans. A 2012 report on their site gives an alarming statistic: between 57,000 and 135,000 whales—along with likely millions of birds, turtles, and fish—are affected and entangled by plastic marine debris each year.

adidas x Parley will host 12 running events across six key cities, featuring celebrity guests like actor Scott Eastwood, Arizona Cardinals’ first-round draft pick Josh Rosen, and platinum selling artist Jhene Aiko. But you don’t have to be at these events to be a part of the community of influencers affecting positive change. You can use your own two feet to help save the oceans wherever you are by joining the Run for the Oceans group on the Runtastic app, or you can click here to rally your friends and fundraise to support youth education in the best natural classroom imaginable, the ocean. It’s time to make every day World Oceans Day.

If you’re still interested in completing those 5 kilometers, Run for the Oceans will be making a stop in NYC on Tuesday, June 26th, where adidas will once again donate $1 to the Parley Ocean Plastic Program for every KM ran.
