Here's another reason to mourn for the Lando Calrissian spinoff movie everyone briefly thought was happening on Thursday: Solo: A Star Wars Story screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan confirmed Lando is pansexual.
"There's a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee Williams' [portrayal of Lando's] sexuality," he told The Hollywood Reporter. Kasdan co-wrote Solo with father Lawrence Kasdan, who himself co-penned Lando's intro, 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, as well as Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. "I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity—sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of."
Kasdan did share how Glover is different from Williams though. "He doesn't make any hard and fast rules. I think it's fun. I don't know where it will go," he said.
This flexibility of Glover's flirty Lando was seen when the Atlanta creator recently hosted Saturday Night Live. "I love alien girls 'cause it's always a surprise when the clothes come off. It's always like, 'Oh, that's your that? We'll figure it out,'" he said while portraying the smuggler in a sketch about where the hell all the black people are in Star Wars.
While we can't guarantee a Lando spinoff film, we will finally get to see Glover take on the role on May 25. In the meantime, he's enjoying major success with his single "This is America," which became the No. 1 song in the country this week. Glover's three albums also re-entered the Billboard 200 chart.
