Donald Glover made a recent Ellen Show appearance to talk about his role as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Glover talked about meeting the original Lando, Billy D. Williams, and how he met his expectations.

“It was really great because he was exactly what he should have been for me," Glover said. “Like I came in with a lot of ideas of what Lando [was like]. I grew up on Lando and that was my first toy.”

Glover said he shared a few ideas he had about Lando’s background when he spoke to Williams.

“Maybe he’s from this other planet, maybe he’s high brow and his family’s rich, he’s an outcast because he likes to gamble," Glover said, laughing. "I had all these ideas, and [Williams] literally like just let me ramble on for a while and I was like, ‘So what do you think?’ I don’t even think he was looking at me when he said it. He was like, ‘I dunno, just be charming.' And I was like, ‘Alright.’ So I threw all the paper out. But that’s exactly what I needed to hear—it was like, 'Yeah, don’t overthink it. Be cool.'”

Glover had given a similar account during a Jimmy Kimmel appearance earlier in May, but on The Ellen Show, Glover shared a particularly great moment he had with his son. Glover and the rest of the Star Wars cast were given their own action figures for the film, and his son took a liking to Glover’s Lando figure.

“They sent [the action figures] to us. And like it’s super weird for me, because I gave it to my son, and his mom is always being like, ‘Who’s that?’ And he’s just playing and he’s like, ‘Oh, this is daddy,’” Glover said, “Daddy’s riding a horse made of playdough. I didn’t feel like that before, but to see him do it is kind of like full circle. It’s beautiful, it’s weird but beautiful.”
