A whopping 24 years ago, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels stumbled upon comedic magic with Dumb and Dumber. Tuesday, Daniels stopped by Conan as part of his Looming Tower promo tour and inevitably landed in a Dumber discussion.

"I was making a comedy with Jim Carrey, that's what I knew," Daniels told host Conan O'Brien when asked if he knew how iconic the role would become. "A comedic genius. We knew 14-year-old boys would love it, but I wasn't prepared for the guys in their seventies with the tuxedo and the martini and the portfolio coming up and going 'You know, Dumb and Dumber might be the best movie I know of.'"

At that moment, Carrey himself emerged to surprise Daniels and the audience. "You're in town and you don't call me?" Carrey joked, later touting Daniels as the "most versatile actor working today."

"You grab on to the tornado that is Jim Carrey, and you hang on, and it was such a joy," Daniels added of the duo’'s original Dumb and Dumber experience. When Carrey noted that they also had a great time together making Dumb and Dumber To, even despite bad reviews, Daniels shared a message for the sequel's detractors. "Fuck them," he said.
