In Game of Thrones's sixth season, the HBO fantasy series made history for winning more primetime Emmys than any other drama in the award's history. The George R. R. Martin fiction novels turned award-winning television series has captivated the masses and garnered a fiercely devoted fanbase. With the show's large ensemble cast, it's struggled in past award seasons to dominate in the acting categories, but this year that's about to change.

Fan faves Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington have reportedly been submitted in the lead actor category for this year's Emmys. The pair, who portray Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow on the show, are being recognized for their strong performances in GoT's seventh season, Entertainment Weekly reports.

This is a pretty big deal for the actors, who have previously only been nominated in supporting role categories. The submissions are due in part to the rise in prominence of their characters' storylines in the most recent season, but it's hard to deny that the magnetism of both characters has been strong for a while now.

So far, the only Thrones actor to win an Emmy has been Peter Dinklage, who plays the quick-tongued, lush Tyrion Lannister. As the show's plot has veered more toward one streamlined story in its most recent season, viewers have had more time to connect and root for Clarke and Harington's characters, making this latest Emmy submission a no-brainer.

Other castmates have also reportedly been submitted for supporting categories this year, including: Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Dinklage. Diana Rigg will also be competing for the "drama guest actress" award.

While Clarke and Harington will soon be facing off in the lead acting category, Dani and Jon will be uniting forces to reclaim the iron throne in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones coming in 2019.
