'Deadpool 2' Breaks Regal Cinemas' 24-Hour Ticket Presale Record in 4 Hours (UPDATE)

'Deadpool 2' broke major records at Regal Cinemas.

UPDATED 5:44 p.m. ET: Deadpool 2 isn't the kind of movie that breaks just one record. Besides breaking Regal Cinema's 24-hour record for advance ticket sales, Deadline is now reporting that the upcoming Ryan Reynolds movie is also on track to become Fandango's top R-rated preseller in their 18-year history. It would replace the current record-holder, 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey. Fandango covers sales for more than 30,000 cinema screens across the country, so breaking this record is a signal of even more box-office greatness to come.

Deadpool 2is already making major strides in advance ticket sales.

Deadline reports the Ryan Reynolds–starring film doubled the 24-hour record for advance ticket sales at Regal Cinemas. And it all happened within four hours. This is also a record-breaking feat for R-rated film at Regal.

"We are on the edge of our seats to see what Ryan Reynolds and his team have planned for Deadpool 2. With the 24-hour advance ticket record shattered, moviegoers seem just as excited as we are to see our favorite anti-hero back on the big screen," said Regal chief marketing officer Ken Thewes. "With tickets now on sale, we will continue to add seats to accommodate the demand."

It seems it'll all be worth for movie-goers as well. Deadpool 2 director David Leitch said the sequel will be bigger. "We did our best to expand the action, and in a general sense, just make it bigger. In terms of the tone, and the fun and the DNA of a Deadpool movie, you're going to get everything you expect and more," he said. Deadpool 2 will also bring together a mutant-heavy team which will include Terry Crews' Bedlam and Zazie Beetz' Domino.

In the meantime,Deadpool 2's competition, Avengers: Infinity War, is breaking major records too.  Last week, it was revealed to be outpacing the last seven Marvel films combined in advance ticket sales.

Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters on May 18, three weeks after Infinity War gets released on April 27.
