The premiere of Marvel's next blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War happened on Monday, and if the first reactions are any indicator, we're in for quite a ride. While the red carpet welcomed stars like Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, and Robert Downey Jr. inside, viewers reportedly had responses ranging from laughing and crying to audible gasps.
The general consensus so far is that the film is a good one, with some calling it a "spectacular" and "phenomenal" film that you'll regret not seeing on opening weekend. If you know anything about how this part of the Marvel story goes down in the comic books coupled with the film's screenwriter warning us we'd lose some important characters, be prepared to have some mixed feelings once the credits roll.
"Avengers: Infinity War is the first time where I’m utterly perplexed about what’s next," tweeted CNN reporter Frank Pallota. "There were audible gasps at the NYC screening." Hollywood Reporter writer Ryan Parker said the film left him "emotionally drained." Viewers were barred from discussing the film on social media until a specific time, and once it had passed, the floodgates opened. "It’s gonna be a looooong year until @Avengers 4," warned actor Kevin Smith. See some of the best (and mostly spoiler-free) reactions below.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in U.S. theaters this Friday.
