Verne Troyer, best known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers movies, has died on Saturday at the age of 49. The news was confirmed on Troyer’s official Instagram page.

Troyer was known for his comedic roles and for being one of the very few successful actors with achondroplasia dwarfism. The cause of his death remains unknown, but TMZ and The Blast reported earlier this month that Troyer had been placed on involuntary psychiatric hold after a friend called the police and said the actor was “extremely upset, drunk and suicidal.” The news was subsequently confirmed on Troyer’s Instagram page.

Fellow actors, celebrities who worked with Troyer, and fans have all taken to social media to mourn his passing.
