Netflix knows exactly how to tease us, probably because nine times out of 10 it involves Stranger Things content, preferably starring Lucas’s adorable little sister Erica calling us all nerds. That’s exactly what they did on Friday after releasing a short new behind-the-scenes video announcing that Stranger Things Season 3 is officially in production.
What’s remarkable is just how little information the video conveys and yet how exciting it still is. It basically consists of watching the cast get together for a table read on April 20—and we hardly even see the majority of the cast. Nevertheless, we still see the name cards for the show’s two newest cast members, namely Cary Elwes, who will play Mayor Kline, and Jake Busey, who will play a journalist for The Hawkins Post.
Before you start thinking this video means your favorite Demogorgon-battling middle schoolers are coming back into your life sooner rather than later, be warned: Stranger Things is only slated to return next year.
We don’t know too much about the details of the third season so far, although executive producer Shawn Levy did reveal last month that the third season will take place a year after the events of the Season 2 finale. Plus: Mike and Eleven, Mad Max and Lucas are both officially coupled up.
We do know one other detail about Season 3, though it doesn’t really affect the audience so much. All of the core cast members are getting very generous raises for the third season. Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair) are all set to make more than $150,000 per episode. (That’s up from $30,000 per episode until now.) We don’t know exactly how much Millie Bobby Brown will make, but it’s reportedly more than the boys. Also, Winona Ryder and David Harbour will now be paid $300,000 per episode.
