'Avengers: Infinity War' Beats 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' for Largest U.S. Opening Weekend Ever

Disney has confirmed that Avengers: Infinity War has bought in $250 million, according to Deadline. This bodies Star Wars: The Force Awakens' previous record for biggest domestic opening-weekend ($247.96 million). The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Infinity War has broken the worldwide record as well, beating The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) with $630 million. To compare, Marvel’s The Avengers made $207,438,708 its opening weekend and Black Panther brought in $202,003,951

Infinity War already held the record for the most bought pre-sale tickets ever. On Friday, Avengers: Infinity War made $106 million at the domestic box office, according to CNN, making it the second-biggest opening day in history behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $119 million.

Infinity War's earnings also got Disney past the $1 billion mark in North America this year in a record 117 days. The studio's previous record was 128 days. The Thursday night screening of Infinity War, which earned $39 million, was the largest for a Marvel film, according to Deadline.
