Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Returned Home After Emergency Heart Surgery

He's back.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has returned home.

According to the Associated Press, the 70-year-old actor/former California governor was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Friday after undergoing emergency open-heart surgery last month. Schwarzenegger’s spokesman, Daniel Ketchell, announced the good news via Twitter:

As previously reported, Schwarzenegger had his pulmonic valve replaced in 1997 due to a congenital heart defect. Ketchell said that the valve was “never meant to be permanent,” which is why the Terminator star chose to replace it through a less invasive—but experimental—procedure scheduled for March 29. Complications unfortunately arose during the valve replacement, so doctors acted fast and performed an emergency open-heart operation on Schwarzenegger.

“During that a procedure, an open-heart surgery team was prepared, as they frequently are in these circumstances, in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed,” Ketchell wrote on social media. “Governor Schwarzenegger’s pulmonic valve was successfully replaced.”

Shortly after the operation, the legendary action star made his recovery announcement via Twitter earlier this week:

It’s true: I’m back! I went to sleep expecting to wake up with a small incision and woke up with a big one - but guess what? I woke up, and that’s something to be thankful for. Thank you to the doctors & nurses. And I’m truly filled with gratitude for all of the kind messages.
