Black Panther is breaking a lot more than box office records.
Earlier this week, a 17-year-old girl named Sophia Robb was forced to make an emergency orthodontist visit after she broke her retainer during a screening of the hit Marvel film. And, no, she didn’t damage it by munching down on a piece of hard movie candy. She actually broke it after clenching her teeth too hard during one of Michael B. Jordan’s shirtless scenes.
The situation was so funny that Sophia’s orthodontist couldn’t help but share the story on Tumblr:
“One of my patients came in for an emergency visit, because she snapped the wire on her retainer watching the movie when MBJ took his shirt off she clenched her teeth so fucking hard she snapped it,” he wrote under a shirtless gif of Jordan as Erik Killmonger. “That is the fucking funniest shit ever to me this tiny 17 year old girl thirsting so goddamn hard she busted steel.”

Though the orthodontist didn’t reveal his patient’s identity, the viral post eventually landed on Sophia’s radar. And she immediately owned up to it.
“One of my mutuals posted, and I screamed it was so funny,” Sophia told Complex, before explaining why she had such a strong reaction to Jordan's torso. “He’s so attractive I couldn’t handle it.”
Despite the mild embarrassment, Sophia displayed a pretty good sense of humor about the whole situation. She even expressed her hope that the viral story would get the attention of Jordan.
Well, Sophia got exactly what she wanted.
Shortly after publications began reporting on the orthodontist’s Tumblr post, Jordan tweeted at Sophia with a considerate offer:
Though it's a pretty generous offer, Sophia said it isn't necessary, as her new retainer has already been paid for. And according to her father, Charlie Robb, the family has already prepared for any future Jordan-related expenses.
